Transaction Advisory: Ethiopia’s First Gender Bond – Enat Bank S.C.

Enat Bank S.C.
A leading private bank in Ethiopia with a strong focus on women’s financial inclusion and empowerment, playing a key role in advancing inclusive banking solutions.
The Challenge
Ethiopia’s capital markets lacked thematic financial instruments that could mobilise capital toward gender-focused initiatives and inclusive economic development.
- 1Absence of gender-focused and thematic bond instruments in the local market
- 2Limited access to targeted financing for women-led businesses
- 3Need for alignment with emerging capital market regulations and frameworks
- 4Lack of precedent transactions within Ethiopia’s financial ecosystem
Our Solution
i-Capital Africa Institute, through its investment advisory arm, was appointed as Transaction Advisor to structure Ethiopia’s first Private, Thematic, and Gender Bond.
- 1Structured the bond in alignment with ECMA directives, ESX requirements, and NBE regulations
- 2Incorporated international best practices, including ICMA Gender Bond Principles
- 3Designed a framework to channel capital toward women-focused and inclusive finance initiatives
- 4Supported the development of a pioneering financial instrument within Ethiopia’s emerging capital market
