About the 3rd Annual East Africa Finance Summit

The Third Annual East Africa Finance Summit (3rd EAFS) has been successfully concluded…

The summit was held for the third time, on December 18 and 19, 2018, at the United Nation ECA Conference Center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia with the motto of “…examining policies and practices…” and under Theme- 2018 “Financing the future of East Africa”. This annual summit is co-organized through the public-private partnership of the i-Capital Africa Institute, FDRE Public Financial Enterprise Agency (PFEA), Jimma University (JU), and Addis Ababa University (AAU).

The summit commenced by Gemechu Waktola (PhD) founder and CEO of the i-Capital Africa Institute’s welcoming speech, who noted on the success of the previous two summits and how the issues raised on those summit had received the attention of concerned parties. He also stated how the current summit was design to spark conversation on timely and crucial changes occurring in Ethiopia, particularly those that involve and impact the finance sector.

The summit was officially opened by the Minister of Innovation and Technology Ministry, H.E. Dr-Ing Getahun Mekuria who noted the government’s commitment to digitalizing the future of the country. He also stressed the necessity of opening-up a national and unified payment gateway system and e-commerce for the growth and development of the financial sector and export system.
