About the Summit
The Annual East Africa Finance Summit (EAFS) is a platform for knowledge sharing and critical voices, organized to facilitate and support the continuous development of the finance sector within the East African region. The platform brings key players and stakeholders of the sector together, to network, address critical issues and set-out strategic directions that shape the future of the finance sector in the region. The summit is now being organized for the third time.
The Third Annual East Africa Finance Summit (3rd EAFS) is being co-organized through the public-private partnership of The i-Capital Africa Institute, FDRE Public Financial Enterprise Agency (PFEA), Jimma University (JU), and Addis Ababa University (AAU). The 3rd Annual EAFS will be held on December 18 and 19, 2018 at the United Nation ECA Conference Center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia with the motto “…examining policies and practices …” and under the Theme-2018 “Financing the Future East Africa”. The summit will include a Main Conference, Presentations, Panel Discussion, Policy Roundtable, and an Exhibition.
The summit, by capitalizing on the outcomes of the preceding two summits, will provide a common platform for improvement of policies & industry practices in East Africa and laying the groundwork in ensuring sustainable growth in the finance sector and promoting economic development. It gives all involved the opportunity to have a hand in bridging persistent gaps and in shaping the future of the finance sector in the country and the region, at large. Furthermore, this annual platform helps organizations gain visibility and provides an opportunity to build a corporate image through promotion, networking, and matchmaking, while also presenting an opportunity for business scale-up, investment and expansions.
Two summits have been successfully conducted so far; the1st East Africa Finance Summit held on December 14-15, 2016, with the Theme-2016 “Building Competitive, Cooperative and Innovative Finance Sector in East Africa”. The introductory remark was delivered by the President of Addis Ababa University at the time, Prof. Admasu Tsegaye; the Director General of FDRE Public Financial Enterprises Agency, H.E Dr. Sintayehu W/Micheal conveyed the keynote address.
Erstwhile, the 2nd Annual East Africa Finance Summit (2nd Annual EAFS) was held on December 19 and 20, 2017. The main theme of the summit was “Preparing for Tomorrow: Building Proactive Finance Sector in East Africa”. The Guest of Honor, FDRE President, H.E. Dr. Mulatu Teshome provided the opening remark. Speakers at the summit included; Zemedeneh Negatu, the Global Chairman of Fairfax Africa Fund, LLC (US), Ethiopia, presented on the “Capital Markets in Ethiopia – Why Now?” and Mr. Richard Ketley, Partner and Director of Genesis Analytics, in South Africa, presented on the “Strategic Challenges of Merger and Acquisition” and many more.
The Annual East Africa Finance Summit (EAFs) is becoming a brand event within the region, which creates a crucial platform to engage the major regional and international stakeholders that shape the future of financial sector within East Africa. The i-Capital Africa Institute annually co-organizes various knowledge sharing platforms pertaining different sectors such as the East Africa Finance summit, the East Africa Cement, Concrete and Energy summit and an annual conference on the Human Capital Development in Africa. These knowledge-sharing platforms (KSP) are organized in the form of summits, conference, forums and other forms at national, regional and continental levels to enhance knowledge and experience sharing within the region.
